Cyber Bullying Article
Post #8
Cyber bullying has become a huge problem in today's society. Below I have attached a link to a news article that discusses a recent case of cyber bullying. This news article explains that a young teenager in Connecticut has been arrested for cyber bullying a teacher through an app known as "Streetchat." Based on what the article had to say, it appears that Streetchat is very similar to Yik-Yak in that the posts are anonymous. In addition, the app uses location in the same way that Yik-Yak does. The teenager ended up posting an inappropriate photo of the teacher with sexual captions. The teenager's post suggested that the teacher was having inappropriate relations with students. As a result, the teen has faced harassment charges as well as misdemeanor offense.
I think that it is so sad that cyber bullying is such an issue. Many times people cyber bully because it is easier to type words out that to confront someone about an issue. The computer and social media allow people to hide behind a post. I certainly wish that apps such as Streetchat and Yik-Yak would be taken off of the market. Both of those apps do way more harm than good. According to the article, many parents and administrators have become concerned with the app's contents. I found it interesting that many students have expressed their dislike for the app. A lot of time I feel like people enjoy reading the nasty gossip expressed on those apps, so it is refreshing to see that teenagers are fed up with this type of activity.
